Lightnin' Slim (Otis Hicks)
Instrument: Guitar
Life span: 3 / 13 / 13 to 7 / 27 / 74
Style synopsis: Slow, often primitive-sounding blues with sparse accompaniment and a soulful feeling. A major influence on Louisiana bluesmen to follow, he helped develop the "swamp blues" style.
Representative recordings:
Excello 8000, "Rooster Blues" and
Excello 8004, "Bell Ringer" are still available on vinyl and are probably his best recordings.
Alternate takes of the Excello material are available on CD from Flyright.
