Contributor's Comments: BB King said of Peter Green, "He
was the only man to ever make me sweat." He originally replaced
Clapton in the Bluesbreakers, then left on 6/15/67 to form Peter
Green's Fleetwood Mac. This outfit would later evolve into the
pop icons they are today, but Peter Green's lineup was resolutely
bluesy. Peter Green has a tremendous amount of soul, several killer
tones, and a particular gift for slow blues. Depression and
drug-induced schizophrenia sidetracked him until an abortive comeback
attempt in the late 70's and early 80's; he does not, at present,
perform, record, or play guitar anymore, claiming he is "not happy
with it."
Editor's Note: Since this bio was written, Peter Green has returned to the blues scene and has recorded with "Splinter Group", his new band. Thanks to Paul Mason for this update. Paul also reports that Green plays a mean harp these days. -Rob
