If you do not find the information you need here, contact us and we will be pleased to assist you.
Each of our web hosting plans carries a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with our services within the first 30 days of your contract, you will be given a full refund of the contract amount, excluding any overages.
All cancellations must be received in writing as per the deadlines indicated; regular mail, email and fax notifications are acceptable.
Computers and operating systems are not perfect and do crash. The last thing that you want is for your site to be down for any length of time.
Our Premium- and Enterprise-level accounts are designed to be as fault-tolerant as possible, including the ability to page a technician 24x7 through our web-based support system.
If the support system isn't accessible, there are automatic means by which a technician is paged when a server goes down.
We monitor all our servers 24x7 by default (but not your vServer), so this provides you with one more safety net in case your specific vServer happens to go down.
Although all of our vServers are backed up daily to an off site location, if a server does die it could take several days to fully restore the data between locations, depending on network links.
The redundant server option creates a second backup of a client's vServer on a second onsite server, so that in the case where a server crashes, once we know that it is irrecoverable, we can bring their vServer back up fairly quickly (usually within less then an hour) on that second machine, while we work to fix (or replace) the original.
A standard feature for all of our accounts, every 24hrs a snapshot of each vServer is made to a computer within our office.
The primary purpose of this backup is to protect our clients against such things as a server blowing up, or the dreaded situation of our data center either closing their doors, or having severe weather do it for them.
Included with all our vServers is the Horde webmail system.
In order to address performance issues, we have setup an optional feature that provides our clients with access to a central version of this that runs on a seperate server and, as a result, tends to perform significantly better.
Due to how webmail interacts with several parts of the vServer mail setup, this option is a per vServer feature, not per domain.
Included with all our vServers is the ability to add as many (sub)domains / websites as you wish, at no extra cost.
New domains/websites are added through a user-friendly interface that configures the Apache web server within your vServer, so that all you have to do is upload the files for the site.
Since each client runs within their own vServer, the versions of software installed can be easily tailored to your individual requirements.
A fair number of legacy software applications haven't been upgraded to use newer versions of PostgreSQL or MySQL, while some clients wish to develop their websites using the latest and greatest versions. As such, we have several versions of each database available to our clients, with the ability to easily add databases to each of them.
A physical server can run multiple virtual private servers (also called VPS or vServer). Each customer has one or more vServers, each one running its own copy of the operating system.
Read more about our our virtual servers here.
A co-managed vServer is a server that is managed by us and you, the customer. We manage the operating system and maintaining the basic services that are commonly provided by it, such as email and Apache web server.
At your request, we will install other software as far as our experience allows us to. For instance, we can install the base software for applications like OpenACS, Zope, or Jakarta-Tomcat.
You can manage as much or as little of the vServer as you want. The more you customize the vServer, the more you are responsible for managing it.
Our clients' experience ranges from novice with computers to system administrators. As such, we try to match our service level to meet each client's needs.
A customer support ticketing system is available for service requests.
A fair amount of vServer configuration and customization (i.e. adding virtual hosts, mailboxes, etc.) are available to customers through a web interface.
We expect you to bring a certain level of competency with any extra technologies you have installed. You are welcome to obtain the expertise of a third party, or directly work with us on what needs to be done. It is up to you to upload content, configure settings, etc.
All of our VPS's are based on FreeBSD's jail feature, which allows us to provide vServers with minimal extra overhead.
We are currently experimenting with offering a Debian VPS that is based on the FreeBSD kernel, but, as that is purely an experimental VPS, we are only offering it to existing and new clients as a no cost, add-on VPS to their existing FreeBSD VPS.
Recognizing that some clients do not use a lot of bandwidth or storage space, we have created a Personal hosting plan whose limits are based on the actual usage of lowest 10% of our existing clientele.
Periodically we will review our client usage and raise (not lower, ever) limits as required, so that the Personal always reflects the bottom 10% of usage.
This plan level has all of the features of all of the other plan levels, but we've found that for 10% of our clients, they don't need the storage or traffic available at the Basic level, so this gives best value for them.
We calculate storage usage very simply: du -skx /
What this means is that all files that are found within your VPS are counted as part of the total storage usage. In order to account for the basic operating system, though, we add 256 MB of disk space to each VPS when we calculate for any overusage. So, for instance, although the Personal plan gives you 128 MB of storage, we allow for that plus another 256 MB before we count any overusage.
To keep disk space usage down, each vServer has /usr/ports mounted from the physical server, so that that disk space does not count against you.
