What is the Personal Hosting Plan Based On?
Recognizing that some clients do not use alot of bandwidth or storage space, we have created a Personal Hosting Plan whose limits are based on the actual usage of lower 10% of our existing clientele.
Periodically, we will review our client usage, and raise (not lower, ever) limits as required, so that the Personal always reflects the bottom 10% of usage.
This plan level has all of the features of all of the other plan levels, but we've found that for 10% of our clients, they don't need the storage/traffic available at the Basic level, so this gives best value for them.
How is Storage Usage Calculated?
We calculate storage usage very simply: du -skx /
What this means is that all files that are found within your VPS are counted as part of the total storage usage. In order to account for the basic operating system, though, we add 256M of disk space to each VPS when we calculate for any overusage. So, for instance, although the Personal Plan gives you 128M of storage, we allow for that + 256M before we count any overusage.
To keep disk space down, each VPS has /usr/ports mounted from the physical server, so that that disk space does not count against you.
What is 24x7 Emergency Technical Support For?
Computers and operating systems are not perfect, and do crash. The last thing that you want is for your site to be down for any length of time.
Our Premium- and Enterprise-level accounts are designed to be as fault-tolerant as possible, including the ability to page a technician 24x7 through our web-based support system.
If the support system isn't accessible, there are automatic means by which technician is paged when a server goes down.
We monitor all our servers 24x7 by default, but we don't monitor your vServer, so this provides you with one more safety net in case your specific vServer happens to go down.
What are Offsite Backups?
A standard feature for all of our accounts. Every 24hrs a snapshot of each client's vServer is made to a computer within our office.
The primary purpose of this backup is to protect our clients against such things as a server blowing up, or, the dreaded situation of our data center either closing its doors, or having severe weather do it for them.
How Many Domains/Websites Can I Host?
Included with all our vServers is the ability to add as many websites or (sub)domains as you wish, at no extra cost.
New domains/websites are added through a user-friendly interface, that configures the Apache web server within your vServer, so that all you have to do is upload the files for the site.
What is a Central Webmail Interface?
Included with all our vServers is the Horde webmail system.
In order to address performance issues, we have set up an optional feature that provides our clients with access to a central version of this that runs on a seperate server and, as a result, tends to perform significantly better.
Due to how webmail interacts with several parts of the vServer mail setup, this option is a per vServer feature, not per domain.
What is a Redundant Server?
Although all of our vServers are backed up daily to an off site location, if a server does die it could take several days to fully restore the data between locations, depending on network links.
The redundant server option creates a second backup of a client's vServer on a second on-site server, so that in the case where a server crashes, once we know that it is irrecoverable we can bring their vServer back up fairly quickly (usually within less then an hour) on that second machine, while we work to fix (or replace) the original.
